Because of the basic anisotropic nature of soil and rock, geotechnical engineering is part science and part art. Understanding the behavior of soil, when placed under structural loads is critical to foundation design. NE&C employees utilize subsurface investigations, laboratory testing and computer analysis to develop design criteria. Field observations and testing during construction allows us to confirm and modify our design criteria based on actual conditions encountered during construction.
